PPM, Martin Kollie Foundation Support District #10 Student Union Indoor and Outdoor Activities as Hundreds Set to Benefit from Empowerment Programs

By Emmanuel M Kangar Jr.

Monrovia, Liberia — The People’s Power Movement (PPM), in partnership with the Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation (MKNKF), has provided support to the district #10 Students Union (DINSU) for a range of indoor and outdoor activities, including academic quizzing and sporting events among schools in District #10, Montserrado County.

Speaking at the program, Elijah G. Garmondyu, a founding member and former Vice President of DINSU, reflected on the union’s history and paid tribute to individuals who played key roles in its establishment and growth. He named several pioneers, including former DINSU President Philip H. Robers, former Secretary General Grace N. Cole, former Public Relations Officer Derrick Gibson, former Mobilization Chairman John N. Weah, former Academic Chair George Juah, and former Financial Secretary Josephine, among others.

Garmondyu praised their sacrifices and dedication, noting that their efforts laid the foundation for the union’s continued progress. He expressed pride in the current generation of students who are now leading and sustaining the organization’s legacy.

Representing both PPM and the Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation, Garmondyu reaffirmed the institutions’ commitment to youth empowerment and equal opportunities for all Liberians. He also recognized key figures within the organizations, including PPM Global Chairperson Abraham Deodeh and MKNKF Chief Administrative Officer Jimmielyn H. Toe.

According to him, the foundation has implemented several educational and empowerment initiatives across Liberia. Among its recent efforts, MKNKF and PPM are preparing to sponsor 100 students at the University of Liberia with an investment of LRD $300,000. A similar initiative last year supported 100 students, with more than half successfully passing the university’s entrance examination.

Additionally, the foundation has awarded full scholarships to 17 students for secondary and tertiary education, funded 75 scholarships in Margibi County for TVET and university students, and supported 85 Liberians with professional training opportunities at GONET Academy.

Beyond education, the foundation has extended humanitarian support through the distribution of rice and essential supplies to vulnerable communities, including students, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. It has also contributed to community development by donating construction materials and supporting institutions such as the Press Union of Liberia.

Garmondyu emphasized that these initiatives have benefited hundreds, and in some cases over a thousand Liberians, particularly young people and underserved populations.

He further announced that DINSU will become a key partner in future initiatives, with continued sponsorship of its programs. The presentation of trophies at the event, he said, symbolizes the beginning of a strengthened partnership between the organizations.

The initiative aims to encourage academic excellence, promote informed decision-making, and empower young people to contribute meaningfully to national development.

“Together, we will continue to build hope, expand access, and empower the next generation of Liberians,” Garmondyu concluded.
