Monrovia – Prominent Unity Party partisan Charles Roberts has called for the immediate dismissal of Liberia’s Justice Minister, intensifying growing criticism within ruling party circles over the government’s handling of corruption-related matters.
Roberts, in a sharply worded statement, questioned the competence of the Justice Minister and urged President Joseph Boakai to remove him from office without delay.
“This guy should be dismissed on Sunday,” Roberts declared. “He doesn’t worth even being a Public Defender in a Magisterial court.”
The comments come amid increasing public debate surrounding the Ministry of Justice and its role in prosecuting corruption cases under the Unity Party-led administration. Critics within the party have recently expressed frustration over what they describe as slow action and weak enforcement against alleged corruption.
Roberts’ remarks add to mounting pressure on the Justice Minister as some partisans of the ruling party continue to demand tougher anti-corruption measures and stronger accountability within government institutions.
The Boakai administration campaigned heavily on promises of transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption, issues many Liberians considered central during the 2023 elections.
As of press time, the Ministry of Justice had not publicly responded to Roberts’ statement.
