President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has disclosed that French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed interest in strengthening ties with Liberia and pledged to become the first sitting French leader to visit the country.
Speaking upon his arrival at the Roberts International Airport following his participation in the Africa Forward Summit in Kenya, President Boakai revealed details of a private meeting he held with the French leader during the summit.
According to President Boakai, President Macron extended a special invitation for a one-on-one discussion at his hotel, where the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest and future cooperation between Liberia and France.
“President Macron told me he was very happy to see me there,” President Boakai said. “I had a private invitation to President Emmanuel Macron’s hotel, and we sat one-on-one and discussed. He even assured me that he would be the first French president to visit Liberia.”
The Liberian leader described the meeting as cordial and productive, noting that it reflects growing international confidence in Liberia’s leadership and democratic progress.
President Boakai’s participation in the Africa Forward Summit brought together African leaders, policymakers, and international partners to discuss development, investment, governance, and regional cooperation across the continent.
If realized, President Macron’s proposed visit would mark a historic milestone in diplomatic relations between Liberia and France, signaling a new chapter of engagement between the two nations.
