RIVER GEE COUNTY — More than 1,000 residents of River Gee County have benefited from a weeklong free medical and surgical outreach organized by the Women’s Ministry of the Assembly of God Church River Gee Mission in partnership with the Kuncares Foundation.
The outreach, held from May 18 to May 22 at the Fish-Town Referral Hospital, provided free consultations, medications, treatment, and surgical procedures for patients from across the county, particularly those from remote communities with limited access to healthcare.
Patients underwent surgeries including hernia repairs, hydrocele operations, circumcisions, and removal of body growths at no cost.
Speaking during the program, Mother Phebe GT. Turo, Director of the Assembly of God Church Women’s Ministry in River Gee Mission, said the initiative was intended to support disadvantaged residents unable to afford expensive medical treatment.
“We organized this outreach to restore hope to our people and improve the health and wellbeing of residents across River Gee County,” she said.
Madam Turo praised healthcare workers, volunteers, and partners for contributing to the success of the outreach and called for continued support for similar initiatives.
River Gee County Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sumo Waiwaiku, described the outreach as a timely intervention that helped address growing healthcare challenges in the county. He urged residents to seek treatment at recognized health facilities instead of relying on self-medication and unsafe traditional remedies.
Meanwhile, the Kuncares Foundation donated assorted medical supplies worth thousands of United States dollars to the Gbeapo Kanweaken Comprehensive Health Center.
Residents praised the outreach and donation as a major step toward improving healthcare access and reducing untreated illnesses in River Gee County.
