Former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah broke down in tears on Friday as he responded to an ongoing court-backed investigation into allegations of jury tampering linked to his corruption trial.
The investigation follows complaints from three jurors who alleged that some of their colleagues may have been influenced or bribed during proceedings connected to the alleged mismanagement of US$6.2 million in public funds.
Tweah appeared emotional while addressing the matter as the probe continued behind closed doors.
Meanwhile, one of his lawyers, Cllr. Arthur Johnson, accused the Executive Branch of attempting to influence the case to ensure Tweah’s imprisonment.
“The government wants to make sure that Samuel Tweah goes to jail,” Cllr. Johnson alleged, describing the investigation as politically motivated.
Authorities have not publicly commented on the claims made by the defense team, while the independent inquiry into the alleged jury tampering remains ongoing.
The high-profile case continues to attract national attention amid concerns over judicial integrity and political interference in Liberia’s justice system.
