Speculation is mounting over whether former Montserrado County District #2 Representative Jimmy Smith could defect from the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) to the ruling Unity Party after praising President Joseph Boakai’s administration.
Smith, a former CDC lawmaker, reportedly described the Boakai-led government as “more responsible and mature” than the previous CDC administration under which he served.
His comments have sparked political debate within opposition circles, with some supporters questioning his loyalty to the CDC. However, Smith has not publicly announced plans to leave the party or formally join the Unity Party.
Political observers say the remarks could further deepen tensions within the opposition as Liberia’s political landscape continues to shift ahead of future elections.
