Audit Follow-up Unit Extends Engagements as GAC Pushes Accountability Drive

By Verity Staff Reporter

The Audit Follow-up Unit of the General Auditing Commission (GAC) has extended its Phase Three engagements with government institutions by one additional week as it continues efforts to improve accountability and ensure audit recommendations are fully implemented across the public sector.

The extension follows what officials described as steady progress during the first week of discussions with various ministries and agencies.

The meetings are focused on strengthening working relationships with management teams, clarifying how audit follow-up processes should be handled, and encouraging faster action on outstanding audit findings.

“The General Auditing Commission Audit Follow-up Unit continues its Phase Three Initial and acquaintance engagements with key government institutions as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency, and the implementation of audit recommendations,” the Commission said.

It added that the discussions are also helping institutions better understand what is required of them when audit issues are raised and how corrective actions should be carried out in a timely manner.

Officials said the engagements are not only about compliance, but also about improving how public institutions operate and deliver services to citizens.

“Building on progress made in the first week, the engagements continue to promote open dialogue with management teams, clarify expectations on audit follow-up, and reinforce the need for timely corrective actions on outstanding audit findings,” the statement noted.

The GAC said the broader goal is to strengthen coordination among institutions, improve governance practices, and support better service delivery across government.

It emphasized that consistent follow-up on audit recommendations remains key to improving the use of public resources and ensuring greater accountability in government operations.

The initiative is expected to continue over the coming weeks as the Commission works with institutions to ensure that audit findings are not only notsed, but fully addressed.
