GARLOVILLE, ZWEDRU, GRAND GEDEH COUNTY — A tragic search for a missing child ended in sorrow on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after the body of a six year old child was discovered in an open Pit well in Garloville, one of Zwedru’s newest communities and home to the Grand Gedeh University campus.
The child had reportedly gone missing on Tuesday, June 9, prompting an intensive search by family members, community residents, and local authorities who remained hopeful that the child would be found alive.
However, at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, search efforts came to a devastating end when the child’s lifeless body was discovered inside an uncovered pit believed to be an abandoned well.
According to members of the coroner jury that examined the body at the scene, preliminary findings showed no signs of foul play. Authorities believe the child may have accidentally fallen into the well and drowned. A final determination will depend on the outcome of ongoing investigations.
Following the examination, the remains of the child were turned over to the grieving family for burial arrangements.
The Liberia National Police (LNP) has launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
