The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Maryland County Detachment, in collaboration with members of the Joint Security and the Pleebo City Corporation, has launched a cleanup campaign across the streets of Pleebo City ahead of this year’s World Drug Day celebration.

The exercise, held on Wednesday, June 24, brought together more than twenty officers from the LDEA, the Liberia National Police, and the Armed Forces of Liberia. The campaign forms part of activities leading to the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, commonly known as World Drug Day.

Speaking during a brief closing ceremony held at Pleebo City Hall, Pleebo City Mayor Larry Geekor praised the LDEA and the Joint Security for what he described as their continued commitment to community service and public safety. Mayor Geekor also pledged the city’s support and confirmed his participation in the official celebration scheduled for June 26.

Meanwhile, Special Agent John Williams McGee, Chief of Operations of the LDEA in Maryland County, disclosed that the cleanup campaign officially kick-starts the county’s World Drug Day activities.

He said Thursday’s activities will feature a friendly football match between the LDEA team and the Old Timers, while Friday’s celebration will include the destruction of drugs seized by the agency between June 2025 and June 2026.

According to McGee, the drug destruction exercise will take place in Philadelphia Community, Harper City.
