The Chief Executive Officer of Lemu’s Clearing and Forwarding Services, William Dewalt, a hundred percent (100%) Liberian own business has dismissed allegations circulating on social media linking him to labor abuse, political connections, and improper dealings with foreign investors, describing the claims as false and damaging to his reputation.
Speaking at a press briefing held Thursday at his office in Topoe Village, Dewalt said he has spent nearly 26 years working in Liberia’s private sector and has never held any government position.
He also denied reports suggesting he has close ties to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, insisting that such claims are misleading and without factual basis.
“I have never served in government, and I have no political influence as is being alleged online,” Dewalt said. “These stories are being circulated to damage my reputation and the work we are doing.”
Responding to concerns about labor practices within his company, Dewalt maintained that Lemu’s Clearing and Forwarding Services treats its employees fairly and complies with basic labor standards.
He explained that drivers working with the company receive their salaries on time, while all company vehicles are insured in line with regulatory requirements.
Dewalt further stated that although the company has not yet introduced a formal medical insurance scheme for all staff, it provides financial assistance to drivers whenever they require medical attention.
Addressing allegations of improper business dealings with foreign companies, particularly Chinese firms, he described the claims as false and politically motivated.
“Our relationship with foreign partners is strictly business. We provide clearing and forwarding services, and we are paid for those services just like any other legitimate company.”
Dewalt alleged that individuals he described as “pay agents” are behind what he called a coordinated smear campaign aimed at undermining his business operations. Despite the controversy, he said his company remains focused on service delivery and continued growth.
Meanwhile, several truck drivers employed by Lemu’s Clearing and Forwarding Services defended the company’s management, rejecting allegations of poor working conditions. They described Dewalt as a supportive employer who prioritizes their welfare and safety.
