Monrovia – University of Liberia (UL) President Dr. Layli Maparyan has acknowledged concerns raised by the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) and the University of Liberia Staff Association (ULSA), describing them as legitimate and requiring urgent attention.
In an official statement issued Tuesday, July 21, Dr. Maparyan said the concerns, which include employee welfare and infrastructure challenges, have long affected the university community. She noted that the administration is working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Government of Liberia, faculty, and staff to address the issues.
The UL President disclosed that emergency meetings were recently held with Cabinet and the Board of Trustees to discuss the resolutions submitted by ULFA and ULSA. While some progress has been made, she admitted that more work remains to meet the expectations of faculty and staff.
Dr. Maparyan, however, urged faculty and staff not to disengage from academic and administrative activities, warning that any disruption could negatively affect students and the university’s mission.
She appealed for continued dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders, particularly the Government of Liberia, stressing that lasting solutions can only be achieved through collective action.
Reaffirming her commitment to improving the institution, Dr. Maparyan pledged to continue working toward creating a better workplace and strengthening the University of Liberia for future generations.
