The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), has confiscated over 50 cartons of rotten frozen chicken at the National Port Authority (NPA), preventing the spoiled products from entering the Liberian market.
According to the Ministry, the seizure was made by its Inspectorate Division during a routine inspection of imported goods at the port. The inspection uncovered the spoiled chicken before it could be distributed for public consumption.
The Ministry described the action as a significant step in safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance with Liberia’s food safety regulations. Officials emphasized that the interception reflects the government’s commitment to protecting consumers from unsafe food products and maintaining strict oversight of imported goods.
MOCI also reiterated its determination to enforce national import standards and ensure that all food products entering the country meet the required safety and quality standards.
The Ministry urged importers and businesses to comply with Liberia’s food safety and import regulations, warning that any products found to be unsafe or unfit for consumption will be confiscated in accordance with the law.
