Monrovia – Liberia National Police (LNP) Inspector General Col. Gregory Coleman has alleged that some media institutions are receiving financial support from drug trafficking networks in an attempt to undermine ongoing investigations.
Speaking on the fight against illicit drug trafficking, Coleman claimed that law enforcement has verified that drug syndicates are using their financial resources to influence media coverage.
“These drug trafficking organizations have unlimited resources, and we have been able to verify and establish that they have infused money into some media outlets to change the narrative, distract key players in the investigation, and sow discord,” Coleman said.
The Inspector General did not identify the media institutions allegedly involved or provide details of the evidence supporting the claims.
His remarks come amid intensified efforts by the government to combat drug trafficking and prosecute individuals linked to major narcotics cases.
No media organization had responded to Coleman’s allegations at the time of publication.
