Monrovia – Executive Protection Service (EPS) Director Col. Sam Gaye has defended the government’s handling of destroyed narcotics evidence, saying the process complied with legal requirements and international best practices.
Responding to comments by former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, Gaye said the destruction of the drugs followed all established legal procedures.
“Madam former Vice President, there are legal guidelines regarding the destruction of bulk drug evidence. The process was followed to the letter. Representative samples were collected for presentation in court, and the court legally authorized the destruction pursuant to law and international best practices,” Gaye stated.
His remarks come amid ongoing public debate over the government’s management of major drug seizures and related prosecutions.
Gaye maintained that the destruction of the bulk narcotics was carried out only after representative samples were preserved for evidentiary purposes and the court granted the necessary authorization.
Former Vice President Howard-Taylor had raised concerns over the destruction of the seized drugs. However, she had not publicly responded to Gaye’s latest statement at the time of publication.
