Thousands of public school teachers across the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) have threatened to stage a complete shutdown unless President Joseph Nyuma Boakai removes Superintendent Dr. Augurie E. Stevens over a string of alleged corruption and administrative misconduct.
In a 5-page statement issued Monday, August 3, 2026, the MCSS Teachers Association (MCSSTA) praised the Boakai administration for increasing budgetary support to the institution but said the funds are being undermined and misused by what they described as poor leadership under Dr. Stevens.
The association, in a 13-count circular obtained by Verity News, accused the superintendent of ignoring a Senate-backed employee verification process, failing to improve workers’ salaries despite increased government funding, mismanaging public resources, violating procurement procedures, and carrying out unauthorized financial transactions.
The workers also alleged that funds intended for school renovations, instructional materials, and laboratory supplies were misused, while many employees continue to earn less than US$110 per month.
Demanding her immediate dismissal, the association warned that employees will begin civil disobedience if the President fails to act.
“We maintain that there will be civil disobedience within MCSS until Dr. Stevens is removed immediately,” the statement said.
The statement was signed by MCSS Teachers Association President
Augustine N. Nyormui and Executive Secretary Emmanuel M. Dickson.
Dr. Stevens and the MCSS administration had not responded to the allegations at the time of publication even though this paper made efforts to follow up.
