Monrovia – The Government of Liberia says its ongoing investigation into illicit drugs extends beyond recent seizures and is focused on what it describes as a long-standing drug-related operation dating back to 2018.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah said the probe is “not just about the drugs that were seized,” but also seeks to uncover what authorities now believe is “an entrenched drug-related operation that has existed in the country since 2018.”
The minister’s remarks come amid growing public speculation over whether former government officials could be implicated in the investigation.
In recent days, Verity Newspaper reported that investigators were pursuing drug-related leads allegedly linked to former government officials. However, the Government has not publicly identified any individuals under investigation or announced charges against any former officials.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
