A woman has died following an incident involving members of the traditional Poro society in Fornor Town, Sokpo Clan, Porkpa District, according to multiple local sources who spoke to this paper on conditions of anonymity.

Sources told Verity News that the woman was accused by the Chief Zoe and his men of attempting to record activities in a restricted bush area where preparations for the Sande society were reportedly taking place. It is alleged that the town’s Chief Zoe ordered four young men to pursue and capture her.

According to the allegations, the woman was taken into the bush and held there for two days. After she was released, she reportedly became seriously ill and unconscious, and was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her body is currently in Porkpa District, the sources said.

The exact cause of her death has not yet been officially confirmed by medical authorities. But inside medical sources confided in this paper that she may have been allegedly sexually abused by the men.

Meanwhile, police in Grand Cape Mount County have arrested the Chief Zoe, who is accused of ordering that the woman be chased, apprehended, and forcibly returned to the bush. Authorities say several other suspects linked to the case remain at large.

The Liberia National Police has not yet released an official statement detailing the circumstances of the incident or any charges filed against the suspects.

The case remains under investigation.
