The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) say the number of Liberians with access to its piped water supply has increased from just over 5 percent in 2024 to 9 percent under the Boakai administration.
LWSC Managing Director Mohammed Ali made the disclosure Tuesday at Monrovia City Hall during a review of the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
Ali said he took over the corporation in 2024 when its water system was serving only a small portion of the population.
“When I took over LWSC in 2024, we had just a little over five percent of the population with access to our water supply,” Ali said.
He said the corporation has since worked to improve its system and extend water services to more communities.
Ali said LWSC wants to raise national water coverage to 10 percent by the end of 2027.
“We are targeting 10 percent national water supply coverage by the end of 2027,” he said.
He attributed the increase to the construction and rehabilitation of water facilities, as well as efforts to improve the corporation’s distribution network.
Ali said many communities across Liberia still lack reliable access to public water, making expansion of the system a priority for LWSC.
“We will continue to work with the government and our development partners to reach more communities,” he said.
He said the corporation’s goal is to ensure that more Liberians, especially people in underserved areas, have access to safe and reliable water.
The disclosure comes as government officials review progress under the ARREST Agenda, the administration’s development program that includes improving basic services and infrastructure across Liberia.
