Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) is set to represent Liberia in China at a 14-day training seminar focused on electronic documents, smart customs and customs cooperation between China and Africa.
Five LIS officers will participate in the seminar at the Shanghai Customs University from August 20 to September 2, 2026.
The program, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and capacity in modern customs and border management practices.
Key areas of focus will include Smart Customs and Digital Border Management, risk management using Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, port supervision and trade facilitation, as well as anti-smuggling measures and Single Window systems.
Shanghai Customs University, described as China’s leading customs training institution and a World Customs Organization-certified training center, will host the participants for classroom sessions, technical engagements and practical learning activities.
The seminar will also include visits to the Yangshan Port and Suzhou Free Trade Zone, alongside cultural exchange activities.
According to the LIS, the training is expected to enhance Liberia’s capacity in border security, improve service delivery and promote the effective use of electronic documents and customs cooperation.
The opportunity was made available through the Government of the People’s Republic of China, through the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia, as part of ongoing cooperation between Liberia and China.
