Prosecution Withdraws Charges Against Former GSA Director-General Mary Broh in Saudi Rice Case

The prosecution has withdrawn its case against former General Services Agency (GSA) Director-General Mary Broh, clearing the way for her removal as a defendant in the ongoing Saudi Rice case involving several former government officials.

The decision was confirmed on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when Criminal Court “C” Judge Ousman F. Feika granted a nolle prosequi application filed by the prosecution on July 3, 2025.

Judge Feika said the prosecution acted within its legal authority under Chapter 18, Section 18.1 of Liberia’s Criminal Procedure Law. He also instructed the Clerk of Court to return Broh’s criminal appearance bond, or its equivalent where applicable, and remove her name from the case.

The prosecution will continue with the case against the remaining defendants, who are facing charges that include theft of property, economic sabotage, misuse and illegal disbursement of public funds, misapplication of entrusted property, abuse of office and criminal conspiracy.

During Tuesday’s chambers hearing, prosecutors submitted about 90 exhibits as part of the discovery process. Defense lawyers objected to some of the documents, saying several were either missing or difficult to read.

The judge subsequently directed the prosecution to provide clearer copies and submit the Grand Jury transcript.

The court also acknowledged an amended indictment filed by the prosecution and ordered that it be included in the official court record.

With the preliminary matters addressed, Judge Feika ordered the case to proceed to trial on August 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

The remaining defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law.
