Unity Party Backs Drug Investigation, Defends Invitation of Former VP Taylor

Monrovia, Liberia — The governing Unity Party has reaffirmed its support for the government’s ongoing investigation into drug-related criminal activities, saying the fight will not spare anyone regardless of political affiliation or status.

In a statement Wednesday, the party commended the Joint Security for what it described as professionalism and courage, while urging security authorities to remain apolitical and focused on their constitutional duties.

The Unity Party also defended the invitation of former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor as a person of interest in the investigation, saying the action demonstrates that the law will be applied equally.

The party accused opposition elements of politicizing the investigation and dismissed claims of a “witch-hunt,” describing the drug fight as a national security matter.

The Unity Party vowed that the investigation and arrests would continue until justice prevails.
