Monrovia, Liberia — August 31, 2026: The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) has expressed strong support for the Government of Liberia’s intensified efforts to dismantle transnational drug trafficking networks operating in the country.
FLY, in a press statement issued Monday, cited the seizure of nearly four tons of cocaine in Duazon, Margibi County, reportedly valued at about US$317 million, as well as a separate US$19.2 million shipment intercepted at Roberts International Airport.
The youth organization welcomed actions taken by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Ministry of Justice, while calling for investigations to go beyond individual suspects and couriers to identify financiers, organizers, facilitators and public officials who may have enabled the trafficking networks.
FLY said its support for the government’s efforts is “principled, not unconditional,” stressing the need for transparency, due process, independence and concrete results, including credible prosecutions and convictions where evidence supports them.
The organization also announced the establishment of a National Youth and Security Advisory Council in partnership with the Ministry of Justice. The council is expected to provide young people from across Liberia with a platform to engage security and justice institutions and contribute to efforts against drug trafficking.
In addition, FLY said it is working with the Witness Protection Agency to establish a national youth hotline for reporting credible information and concerns related to the drug crisis. FLY urged young Liberians across all 15 counties to actively support the national fight against drugs, while insisting that no individual—regardless of political affiliation, wealth, status or influence—should be above the law.
