A 100% Liberian-owned mining and environmental consultancy firm, GeoMining & Environmental Consultancy Inc., is calling for greater participation of indigenous businesses in Liberia’s mining and energy industries, warning against an extractive sector in which local companies remain on the sidelines of major investment opportunities.
The company made the call during its participation in the second Liberia International Mining and Energy Conference and Expo (LIMEC 2026), held October 28–29 at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County.
Through its exhibition booth, GeoMining showcased its professional services and technical capabilities, seeking to demonstrate that Liberian-owned enterprises have the expertise to contribute meaningfully to the country’s mining, petroleum, and energy industries.
The company’s participation comes amid growing discussions about local content, investment opportunities, and the need to ensure that Liberians benefit directly from the exploitation of the country’s natural resources.
Organized under the theme, “Transforming Liberia’s Economy: Driving Development Through Sustainable Mining and Energy Investment,”LIMEC 2026 brought together government officials, international investors, diplomatic representatives, mining and energy companies, development partners, and technical experts.
Among the prominent attendees were President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.; Mines and Energy Minister R. Matenokay Tingban; Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu; and EU Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Gilles Matayron.
Representing GeoMining was its Executive Director, Carlos E. Tingban, a former Assistant Minister, whose participation highlighted the company’s interest in policy discussions, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities within the extractive industries.
During the two-day conference, participants discussed investment promotion, infrastructure development, renewable energy, petroleum exploration, environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and collaboration between government institutions and private-sector actors.
GeoMining maintains that Liberia’s ambition to transform its economy through natural resource investment must go beyond attracting foreign investors to creating meaningful opportunities for indigenous companies and professionals.
The company argues that Liberian-owned businesses should not merely observe the country’s resource development process but should occupy a meaningful position in providing technical services, environmental management, and other professional support required by the industries.
It further emphasized that sustainable development in the mining and energy sectors requires sound technical expertise, responsible investment practices, effective environmental management, and stronger participation by local enterprises.
For GeoMining, its presence at LIMEC 2026 was an opportunity to establish strategic partnerships, engage prospective investors, and demonstrate the capacity of Liberian professionals to support responsible resource development.
