MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced a major increase in financial incentives for players of Liberia’s senior national football team, the Lone Star, raising both appearance fees and win bonuses from US$1,000 to US$2,500.
Youth and Sports Minister Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah announced the increase as part of efforts to motivate and reward players representing Liberia on the international stage.
Under the new incentive structure, players who feature in all six Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches will receive US$15,000 in appearance fees.
Players will also receive an additional US$15,000 bonus if the Lone Star wins all six qualifying matches.
The minister made the announcement in a motivational message to the national team, declaring, “We have done our part! Leggo Lonestar.”
The increase represents a 150 percent rise in both appearance fees and win bonuses.
For the first time in more than 20 years, the Lone Star’s appearance fee and win bonus have moved beyond the US$1,000 mark.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports says the decision is a significant step toward recognizing, motivating, and rewarding the players who represent Liberia in international football.
The announcement comes as Liberia prepares for its AFCON qualifying campaign, with the new incentive package expected to encourage strong performances from the national team.
