Liberia will host the 10th edition of the Africa Sings Festival from October 6 to 10, 2027, marking a major milestone for the country’s music, arts, and tourism sectors.
The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 9th edition of the festival, held at the Theater of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. During the ceremony, the festival’s flag was officially handed over to the Liberian delegation, confirming Liberia as the next host country.
The handover was conducted by Africa Sings’ Chief Patron, His Eminence Archbishop Dr. Daniel Okoh, and Executive Director Maestro Jean Dogbe. The Liberian delegation was headed by Sir. Wilmot K. Bobbroh III, Executive Director of the Liberia National Academy of Music, and included Mr. Stephen Garduah and Dr. Annika Hillers. Three officials of the Liberian Community in Nairobi, led by Mr. Marcus Weah, also joined the delegation to receive the flag.
Following the selection of Liberia to host the festival, Sir. Wilmot K. Bobbroh III was appointed Chief of the Local Organizing Committee. He will serve as the principal liaison between Africa Sings, the Government of Liberia, partners, and the various organizing subcommittees.
Africa Sings is an international musical platform that promotes African choral music, cultural exchange, tourism, and networking. The 2027 edition is expected to bring together musicians, choirs, and arts professionals to celebrate African culture and showcase Liberia’s musical heritage.
According to the organizers, the festival will be the first international music festival of its kind to be held in Liberia in the post-war era. The event is expected to create opportunities for Liberian musicians and artists to connect with international counterparts while promoting the country’s tourism sector and cultural identity.
Liberia’s hosting of the festival is expected to place the country on a broader international cultural stage and attract attention to its rich musical traditions and tourism potential.
