Liberia Set to Host Africa’s Scrabble Powerhouses as 2026 Continental Championship Launches

The Government of Liberia, in collaboration with the National Scrabble Association of Liberia, has officially launched the 2026 Pan African Scrabble Championship, positioning the country to host one of Africa’s biggest competitive word-game tournaments.

The championship, scheduled for October 22–23, 2026, at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Monrovia, is expected to attract more than 150 athletes from 24 English-speaking African countries.

The tournament will bring together the continent’s top Scrabble players to compete for the title of African champions, testing their vocabulary, strategic thinking, and competitive skills.

Often regarded as the equivalent of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in football, the Africa Scrabble Championship provides a continental platform for elite players to compete for supremacy in the sport.

Liberia’s hosting of the championship is expected to bring together athletes and officials from across the continent, placing the country at the center of African Scrabble competition for the two-day event.

The championship also offers Liberia an opportunity to showcase its capacity to host international sporting competitions while promoting intellectual sports and regional engagement.
