Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono has moved to prevent further escalation of the Ganta market land dispute, warning against the alleged illegal occupation of public land and announcing plans for police deployment to deter trespassing.
In an official social media post, Superintendent Gono disclosed that her office, through Gompa City Mayor Samuel S. Hardt, had reached out to individuals reportedly seeking to occupy the disputed land, which she described as an eminent domain in Gompa City, commonly known as Ganta.
“Through Mayor Samuel S. Hardt’s office, we have reached out to those hoping to illegally occupy the Eminent Domain in Gompa,” Superintendent Gono stated.
She further announced that the County Police Commander would deploy officers to prevent unauthorized entry onto the property.
“Meanwhile, the County Police Commander will deploy men to prevent illegal trespass tomorrow,” she added.
The superintendent’s announcement signals a more direct intervention by the county administration as tensions surrounding the Ganta market land issue continue to draw attention.
The planned police deployment is intended to prevent alleged trespassing and maintain order while the dispute remains unresolved.
However, details regarding the individuals involved, the legal ownership or status of the disputed property, and any prior agreements concerning its use were not provided in the superintendent’s statement.
It also remains unclear whether the county administration has initiated formal legal proceedings or proposed a negotiated settlement to address the underlying dispute.
The intervention places the county administration and local authorities at the center of efforts to prevent a potential confrontation over the contested land.
