Margibi County- A Nigerian national believed to be in his 20s , Mustapha Ike, has been apprehended by the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Margibi detachment for possessing a substantial quantity of illegal drugs. The arrest, which took place at Ike’s residence on Borlorla Road, signals a significant step in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Liberia.
According to a report by Commander Alex Flomo of the LDEA Margibi County Department, Ike was caught carrying drugs valued at over LD$439,335, equivalent to more than USD 2,200. The confiscated drugs included 4 tubes of heroin, 10 dispensing plastics of kush, and 21 wraps of cocaine.
The arrest was made following a tip-off from vigilant community members, highlighting the importance of public cooperation in combating drug-related crimes. Commander Flomo emphasized the critical role that local citizens and government officials play in supporting the LDEA’s efforts to curb drug trafficking.
“The protection of our community from the dangers of drugs is a collective responsibility. We urge all residents and officials to assist us in identifying and apprehending those involved in this illicit trade,” stated Flomo.
Despite facing significant logistical challenges, including a lack of adequate mobility, the newly assigned Commander Alex Flomo expressed his determination to minimize drug proliferation in Margibi County, particularly in the Kakata area.
“We are all aware of the challenges we face, especially the lack of mobility. However, we assure the residents of Margibi County that we will make every sacrifice necessary to ensure their safety and create a drug-free environment,” he added.
Mustapha Ike has been charged with drug trafficking and is currently detained at the Kakata Central Prison, awaiting trial. Commander Flomo assured the public that the LDEA would ensure that justice is served and that Ike faces prosecution according to the law.
“Rest assured, the LDEA is committed to following through with court proceedings to ensure that the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said Flomo.
The successful arrest and subsequent legal actions against Ike are seen as a significant victory in the ongoing fight against drugs in Liberia.
