In a move to restore and uphold sanity and calm at the Ministry of Labor, the Minister of Labor has instructed a team of three to investigate allegations levied against him that he doctored a recording made during a mass meeting at the Ministry.
Minister Cooper Kruah, in a communication that is in our possession, expressed his intent not to take the matter lightly, stating that it borders on his character, integrity, and the reputation of the institution at large.
The Ministry has been in the news over issues of internal conflict, which Minister Kruah has vowed to address.
The investigation, which is being handled by three individuals, is headed by the Deputy Minister for Manpower Planning, Steve S. Kolubah.
In the letter dated August 26, 2025, addressed to Deputy Minister Steve Kolubah, Cllr. Cooper Kruah stated: “You are hereby requested to head a team of three individuals to investigate a matter involving Assistant Director Jackson A. Grant, an employee of the Ministry of Labor. He appeared on an OK FM Radio Talk Show on Wednesday, August 19, 2024, and informed the listening public that during the mass meeting held at the Ministry of Labor, in the 3rd Floor Conference Room on Monday, August 19, 2024, I, the Minister, extended an apology to the workers. However, my statement was doctored to appear as that of the Vice President of the Ministry of Labor Workers’ Association, Madam Jourran M. Kanneh. Due to the criminal implications of this allegation, I request that your findings and recommendations be submitted to my office as a matter of urgency.”
It can be recalled that Assistant Director Jackson A. Grant, during OK FM’s Morning Show with journalist Clarence Jackson, accused the minister of extracting his voice from a recording “where he apologized” to workers, while leaving out the portion where the head of the workers’ union apologized for their recent actions.
Recently, the Ministry witnessed the closure of its offices by aggrieved workers who were affected by a recent action taken by the Civil Service Agency (CSA). Work activities came to a standstill at the Ministry as workers demanded the administration reconsider its decision against them.
However, Minister Cooper Kruah clarified that the decision to remove them from the payroll was made by the Civil Service Agency (CSA) and not the Ministry, as was perceived by the workers.
This situation prompted the Minister to convene a general staff meeting to address the situation and other matters the Ministry is facing. While investigating the matter, this publication obtained a video in which the head of the workers’ union discussed the situation.
Our investigation revealed that no editing or doctoring was done to the video clip, contrary to the claims made by the Assistant Director.
Meanwhile, Verity News is also in possession of a complaint filed against the Assistant Director. In the complaint submitted by a business firm, DITCO (Liberia) Inc., the firm pointed out alleged unprofessional behavior demonstrated by the Assistant Director.
According to the minister, the matter is undergoing investigation and may lead to administrative action if found guilty.
