Monrovia, Liberia- The Liberia National Police (LNP) and Liberia National Commission on Arms (LINCA) have announced the immediate Revocation of Firearms Permits and Licenses across Liberia.
LINCA and LNP notified the public on Friday, August 30,2024 in a release about their latest decision regarding the possession of firearms in the country.
According to the release, all previously licensed firearms are considered illegal under the provisions of the Firearm and Ammunition Control Act of 2015.
The joint release of LINCA and LNP state that all firearm permits previously issued have been officially revoked.
This action, according to the release, is in accordance with the Firearm and Ammunition Control Act of 2015, Part III and its Administrative Regulation.
Mandatory Surrender of Firearms:
All firearms that were legally possessed under previous licenses must be surrendered to the LNP Small Arms Unit at the central headquarters in Monrovia according to the release.
The release states: “Only permits granted to diplomatic missions will remain valid. All other temporary licenses or permits are hereby revoked.”
Consequences for Non-Compliance:
There are penalties prescribed under the Act establishing the Firearm Commission for would be violators.
Those who will continually possess or use firearms without proper authorization will be deemed violators of the Firearm and Ammunition Control Act of 2015.
Violators will face legal penalties, including fines and imprisonment.
According to the release, this measure is being taken to enhance public safety and security throughout Liberia, noting that the government is committed to ensuring a peaceful environment for all citizens.
LINCA and LNP promised to announce further instructions on how individuals can lawfully possess firearms in Liberia.
“The public is encouraged to comply with this directive to avoid penalties.”
