Tokyo, Japan – The investigation of Verity News has uncovered a very disturbing video about a perceived political ally of President Joseph Boakai, ex-President George Weah and ALP Political Leader Benoni Urey on suspicions of a fake gold scandal.
Police Officers in Tokyo have arrested and handcuffed Joe Kpoto alias insideoutside Kpoto who once supported the campaigns of Liberian President Joseph Boakai and former President George Weah in 2023.
Kpoto, seen handcuffed in a car and driven away, was arrested on suspicion of stealing ¥13 million ($83,400) from a company executive by swapping out cash during a fake gold transaction.
Suspect Joe Kpoto, 40, is accused of carrying out this criminal act on Oct. 25, 2023, at around 1 p.m. at a restaurant in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward.
The Tokyo Police claimed that five incidents of similar nature occurred across Tokyo between August 2023 and June 2024, resulting in a ¥146 million loss.
The Japanese authorities are also investigating Kpoto in connection with these other incidents.
According to them, Kpoto allegedly positioned himself as a business consultant during a meeting with a 62-year-old company executive, who had been approached by a Japanese broker for the purchase of about 1 kilogram of gold grains.
Kpoto reportedly asked the 62-year-old victim to bring ¥13 million in cash to the meeting. The victim did and handed over the money to Kpoto in a paper bag. During the meeting, Kpoto allegedly pretended to count the money under the table, but replaced it with notepads resembling bundles of banknotes. Kpoto then sealed the bag with adhesive tape to prevent the victim from noticing the swap according to Tokyo’s police.
The “gold grains” given to the business executive was later appraised, and it was discovered that they were copper coated in gold paint. After rushing back to the restaurant in search of his client, Kpoto escaped the scene according to police report. At that moment, the gold scam victim realized that the paper bag Kpoto gave him had only notepads.
According to travel records, Japanese authorities confirmed that Kpoto left Japan the day after the incident but was arrested upon his return this gons Wednesday at Haneda Airport.
Another foreign national linked to this gold grain criminal transaction is currently being pursued by Tokyo Police.
Kpoto also once aligned politically with CDC political leader George Weah, NPP Political Leader Jewel Howard-Taylor, UP Political Leader Joseph Boakai, and the ALP Political Leader Benoni Urey. This brings into question his loyalty.
Joe Momoh Kpoto, the suspect, is the son of the late Liberian Senator Kerkula Bayor Kpoto. Joe Kpoto also holds a British citizenship.
