House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa has firmly stated that resignation is a voluntary act, dismissing persistent rumors fueled by the majority bloc of the House, which has allegedly been attempting to pressure him into stepping down.
Responding to the claims during a press briefing at the Capitol Building, embattled Speaker Koffa did not only clarify that he has no intention of resigning but also challenged the majority bloc to take their grievances to a constitutional trial.
He called for an open and transparent process, even inviting the press to witness proceedings if such a trial were initiated.
“I want to make it clear: resignation is a personal decision, and no one from the so-called majority bloc can force me to resign,” Koffa declared. “If I am found constitutionally wrong in any way, I will step down. But I will not give in to the whims of a few who are spreading baseless rumors.”
The Speaker’s remarks come amid tension within the House of Representatives, with reports of internal factions attempting to undermine his leadership.
The Speaker reiterated his commitment to the principles of democracy and transparency, emphasizing that his focus remains on legislative duties and addressing national priorities.
This declaration is viewed as a direct challenge to those questioning his leadership and a bold assertion of his resolve to uphold the integrity of the legislature.
The public awaits any further developments as the political dynamics within the House continue to unfold.
