Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has vowed to lead a “Step Down Campaign” against President Joseph Boakai if the Supreme Court rules against embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.
Once a staunch supporter of President Boakai, Rep. Kolubah now threatens to launch a movement calling for the President’s resignation should the court deliver a ruling that negatively impacts Koffa’s position.
Speaking to journalists at the Capitol Building, Kolubah reaffirmed his commitment to leading this campaign, stating that he would not back down from orchestrating a massive effort to pressure President Boakai to step down.
Kolubah made it clear that, while he would respect the Supreme Court’s decision on the ongoing political impasse at the House of Representatives, he would continue to oppose what he sees as illegal actions taken by the majority bloc in the legislature. He warned that such actions could lead to violence.
“If the Supreme Court rules against the Speaker, setting a dangerous precedent, I will spearhead a forceful campaign that will call for Boakai’s removal from office,” Kolubah said, highlighting the significance of the Court’s ruling as a precedent that could set the stage for his next political move.
The lawmaker also expressed disbelief at rumors circulating on social media that the Supreme Court would rule in favor of the majority bloc. He stated that these rumors were meant to sway public opinion and undermine the integrity of the Court’s decision.
“We believe in the Court system, and we trust that it will not be manipulated,” Kolubah remarked during a media engagement on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Kolubah has been a vocal supporter of Speaker Koffa throughout the political crisis, accusing the Boakai administration of attempting to unlawfully remove him from office. His criticisms of the current government, once his ally, have made him a prominent voice in the ongoing political divide within the legislature.
The lawmaker’s commitment to Koffa’s leadership remains firm, even stating that he would resort to drastic measures if Koffa were forced to resign. Meanwhile, Speaker Koffa has remained resolute in his decision not to step down, opting instead to seek a resolution from the Supreme Court.
