The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has released the market buying and selling rates of the Liberian Dollar (L$) against the United States Dollar (USD) from December 12 to December 18, 2024.
Based on daily surveys of the foreign exchange market in Monrovia and other selected cities, these indicative rates provide an update on the ongoing trends in Liberia’s currency exchange landscape.
According to data from the CBL’s Research, Policy, and Planning Department, the exchange rates for the US Dollar against the Liberian Dollar showed slight fluctuations over the past week. On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the market recorded a buying rate of L$180.9950 per US Dollar and a selling rate of L$182.9071 per US Dollar. This marked a slight increase compared to Tuesday, December 17, 2024, when the buying rate stood at L$180.7868 and the selling rate at L$182.6919.
The exchange rates displayed a gradual upward trend throughout the week. On Monday, December 16, 2024, the buying rate was L$180.4914, with a selling rate of L$182.3512. The previous days, December 14 and 13, saw slightly lower values, with buying rates of L$180.3082 and L$180.1942, respectively, and selling rates of L$182.1653 and L$182.0260.
This pattern of minor fluctuations reflects the dynamic nature of the foreign exchange market in Liberia, which is influenced by a range of factors, including global economic conditions and domestic monetary policies.
The CBL emphasized that these rates are indicative, based on surveys conducted across commercial banks, the parallel market, and licensed Forex bureaus, rather than rates set by the Central Bank.
