Sen. Dillon Condemns Mob Killing of Two Alleged Thieves

Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon has strongly condemned the mob action that led to the death of two individuals at the 72nd Junction in Paynesville on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Referring to the act as “barbaric, unfortunate, and disheartening,” Senator Dillon called for immediate justice and urged Liberians to reject such violence in society.

“This incident is disturbing and should never be tolerated. We cannot allow mob justice to replace the rule of law,” Dillon stated. The Senator disclosed that he had engaged Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean, urging swift actions to identify and prosecute those responsible. According to Dillon, the Justice Minister assured him that the Liberia National Police is actively investigating the case.

The victims, accused of being motorcycle thieves and harming their alleged victims, were attacked by an angry crowd and killed in public. Witnesses report that the mob was fueled by frustration over repeated thefts. The gruesome incident sparked widespread reactions on social media, with some commenters justifying the mob action as “justice served,” while others condemned the lawlessness and its implications for human rights.

Senator Dillon has pledged to work closely with the Ministry of Justice and the Police to ensure justice is served. “We shall remain seized of this issue to ensure justice is properly delivered,” he concluded.

The incident stresses the challenges of addressing crime in Liberia while preserving the rule of law, as mob violence increasingly emerges as a dangerous substitute for formal justice processes.
