LNP Takes Swift Action Against Officers Over Bribery and Misconduct

Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has taken disciplinary action against three officers, dismissing one and suspending two others, following an investigation by its Professional Standards Division into acts of corruption, abuse of authority, and neglect of duty.

The investigation stemmed from an encounter on January 17, 2025, in Bong County, where the Inspector General of Police, Hon. Gregory O.W. Coleman, witnessed highway patrol officers harassing drivers and soliciting bribes.

Among those disciplined was Sgt. Musa V. Sheriff, identified as the team leader of the highway patrol unit. Sgt. Sheriff, who carried ID #2248, was immediately dismissed after being found guilty of corruption, neglect of duty, and misconduct, as outlined in the LNP’s Administrative Instructions on discipline and professional standards.

Patrol Officer Julius Reeves, ID #1733, a member of the Police Support Unit (PSU), received a four-month suspension without pay for his role in unethical behavior, including neglect of duty and misconduct. Additionally, Patrol Officer Erasmus K. Jallah, ID #6613, who served as the driver for the unit, was suspended for three months without pay for similar unethical conduct.

The LNP has ordered all three officers to return all government-issued property to the Human Resources Division, including uniforms, belts, shoes, and badges.

As part of the investigation, an amount of LRD 36,000, confiscated from the officers as proceeds of bribery, has been deposited into government coffers at the Central Bank of Liberia.

In a statement, the Liberia National Police reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within its ranks, emphasizing that such actions are necessary to maintain public trust and professional ethics in law enforcement.
