President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has departed Liberia for the United States, where he is expected to participate in the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA) and hold a series of high-level engagements.
According to a release from the Executive Mansion, President Boakai departed Monrovia on Sunday, September 13, 2026, beginning a multi-stop visit that will include engagements in Washington, D.C., New York, and Virginia.
Ahead of the UN General Assembly, the Liberian leader is scheduled to meet with selected members of the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C., with discussions expected to focus on strengthening relations between Liberia and the United States.
President Boakai will then travel to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly, where he is expected to address the gathering and take part in several side events.
Following the UN engagements, the President and selected members of his delegation will return to the Washington, D.C., area for the Liberia Annual Diaspora Conference in Alexandria, Virginia. President Boakai is expected to deliver the keynote address at the conference, which brings together Liberians from across the diaspora.
He is also scheduled to visit the Liberian Maritime Registry in Dulles, Virginia.
The delegation includes Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti; Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan; Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah; Health Minister Dr. Louis Mapleh Kpoto; Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah; Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Gbeme Kollie Horace; and National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods.
While President Boakai is away, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah will act as Chair of the Cabinet in consultation with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, while maintaining communication with the President.
