Monrovia, Liberia – Nimba County District #7 Representative Musa Hassan Bility has issued a passionate open plea to the Supreme Court of Liberia, seeking intervention after a recent setback in his pursuit of justice.
In his letter, titled “An Open Plea to the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia: Justice is All We Seek,” Bility called upon the nation’s highest court to uphold its role as the ultimate custodian of justice.
His appeal follows the Civil Law Court’s dismissal of a petition for declaratory judgment filed by the minority bloc, citing lack of jurisdiction.
“Today, I write with a heavy heart on behalf of those who continue to look to you as the ultimate custodian of justice in our nation,” Bility lamented. “It is with great disappointment that we find ourselves in a position where the Civil Law Court, citing its lack of jurisdiction, has dismissed a matter that cries out for clarity, fairness, and justice.”
The decision by Civil Law Court Judge George Smith has left the minority bloc’s case unresolved, casting uncertainty over their pursuit of justice.
“This decision has effectively placed our pursuit of justice in limbo, with no resolution in sight and no alternative forum to hear our case,” Bility stated.
“Your Honorable Supreme Court, which has heard this case before, now stands as the only body with the power and authority to ensure justice is served.”
Bility’s plea emphasized that the issue at hand transcends technicalities of jurisdiction and procedure, striking at the heart of public confidence in Liberia’s judiciary.
“This is not merely about the technicalities of jurisdiction or procedure. It is about the faith of the people in their judiciary and their belief that their voices will be heard. Denying a hearing for the bill of information not only threatens to undermine the constitutional rights of the parties involved but risks eroding public trust in the justice system itself,” he warned.
The Nimba lawmaker urged the Supreme Court to grant a hearing on the Bill of Information, asserting that such a move would reaffirm the judiciary’s commitment to justice and fairness.
“Honorable Justices, we ask you today to consider the weight of this moment. By allowing the Bill of Information to be heard, you are not only offering a pathway for resolution but reaffirming your commitment to the ideals of justice and fairness.”
He concluded his appeal with a call to action, underscoring the judiciary’s role as the foundation of democracy. “Justice is all we seek. Justice is all we plead for.
It is our foundation as a democratic nation and the promise we must uphold to every citizen. In your hands lies the power to restore faith, clarity, and hope to a matter that has left many disillusioned.
Hear us, your Honorable Supreme Court, for justice delayed is justice denied,” Bility implored.
