MOH Launches Nationwide Emergency Ambulance Service

Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Health has officially launched a 24/7 Emergency Ambulance Service, providing citizens with immediate access to life-saving medical assistance nationwide.

The service, accessible through the toll-free number 5888, is designed to ensure that both urban and rural communities receive prompt medical attention in times of crisis. Ambulances have been strategically deployed at key health facilities nationwide, aiming to reduce response times and improve emergency medical care.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, the initiative is a critical step in addressing delays in medical interventions, which have often contributed to preventable deaths. The service is expected to cover a wide range of emergencies, including road traffic accidents, sudden illnesses, and other urgent medical conditions requiring immediate attention.

“Improving access to emergency medical services is a crucial component of strengthening our healthcare system,” the Ministry stated, underscoring the importance of the initiative in saving lives and improving overall healthcare delivery.

The launch of this nationwide service aligns with President Joseph Boakai’s commitment to strengthening Liberia’s healthcare infrastructure. During his recent State of the Nation Address, the president emphasized his administration’s dedication to enhancing emergency medical services and expanding access to quality healthcare.

The new initiative has been widely welcomed by the public, with citizens expressing optimism that it will significantly improve emergency response, particularly in remote areas where healthcare access has been a longstanding challenge. The Ministry of Health has urged Liberians to take advantage of the new service, encouraging them to save the emergency number and spread awareness about its availability.
