“All Ministers and Directors Are Corrupt,” UP Stalwart Queen Johnson Alleges

Monrovia, Liberia – Queen Johnson, widely known as the “Female General,” has launched a critique against President Joseph Boakai’s administration, accusing all ministries and managing directors appointed by the President of corruption. Johnson made the explosive allegations on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, during an impromptu interaction with journalists at the ruling Unity Party (UP) headquarters on Broad Street, Monrovia.

Speaking after a press conference held by UP Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh, Johnson expressed frustration over what she described as the government’s failure to prioritize the employment of party loyalists. She claimed that grassroots members of the Unity Party, who were instrumental in the administration’s rise to power, have been sidelined while outsiders reap the benefits.

“Joseph Nyuma Boakai has been in power for one year, and our partisans do not have jobs,” Johnson said, her voice filled with anger. “When we advocate for our people, we receive warning letters. The ministers and managing directors we speak against are all corrupt,” she alleged.

Her criticism of the administration didn’t stop there. Johnson, who described herself as a staunch Unity Party supporter, claimed that ministers and directors appointed by President Boakai have consistently dismissed requests to employ loyal party members, often responding negatively.

“They forget that the Unity Party made them ministers, managing directors, and directors. But instead of helping our people, they are employing outsiders who mock us while our partisans struggle to survive,” Johnson asserted. She vowed to lead protests to demand better treatment for grassroots members, declaring, “It is time for us to stand up and protest. I am prepared to lead this battle.”

Johnson went on to accuse all ministries of corruption under Boakai’s leadership. “All ministries are involved. They are corrupt,” she shouted. She added that there would be a reshuffling within the administration after the President’s State of the Nation Address. “We’re going for everybody. They’re corrupt,” she repeated.

Her fiery remarks also targeted Unity Party Chairman Rev. Luther Tarpeh and other party leaders, whom she described as weak and incapable of defending the interests of the party’s rank and file. “Luther Tarpeh is weak. Our chairman is weak. Our national chair lady is weak. Unity Party needs strong leadership,” she said. Johnson claimed that if she were given party leadership for a month, she would “straighten” it.

Meanwhile, commenters on Facebook noted that Queen Johnson’s criticisms highlight growing tensions within the ruling Unity Party as it marks its first year in power. Amos Parker added that Johnson’s allegations and her call for protests underscore dissatisfaction among some party loyalists who feel excluded from the administration’s achievements.

President Boakai, who has previously emphasized his commitment to tackling corruption and fostering inclusivity, and the Unity Party have yet to respond to Johnson’s allegations. The claims of corruption and internal party discontent could pose significant challenges for his administration as it enters its second year.
