Bahn Health Center Undergoing Major Improvements

Authorities in Nimba County are advancing efforts to transform the Bahn Health Center in Zoe-Geh District into a Comprehensive Health Center through extensive renovations and medical upgrades.

Nimba County Health Officer Dr. Ponnie Robertlee Dolo revealed on February 28, 2025, that the facility has undergone substantial improvements to enhance healthcare delivery for the region. The upgrades include modernizing the center’s physical infrastructure, refurbishing key buildings, adding modern flush toilets, and improving the plumbing and sewage systems. All major structures, including the outpatient department, inpatient building, and maternal waiting home, have been repainted and fitted with tiled floors.

The health center has also received a wide array of medical and surgical equipment to strengthen its capacity to provide advanced care. The new supplies include surgical and delivery beds, stretchers, admission and examination beds, electrical and manual autoclaves, essential surgical tools such as kidney basins, gauze drums, and protective masks. Dr. Dolo said these additions will improve the center’s ability to manage surgical procedures, blood transfusions, and other critical medical interventions.

Serving over 35,000 people across 19 surrounding communities, the Bahn Health Center is a vital healthcare hub in Zoe-Geh District. It now features upgraded staff accommodations, a maternal waiting home, a modern triage unit, and a newly expanded inpatient ward. The facility also has an ambulance, a water tower, and reliable energy sources, including solar power and a 30KVA diesel generator. Additional installations, such as two laundry machines and water pumps, are intended to support medical operations.

According to Dr. Dolo, the expansion is designed to reduce the need for patient referrals to distant medical facilities, including the Saclepea Comprehensive Health Center, JFD Hospital in Tappita, and Ganta’s United Methodist Hospital, and E&J Medical Center. The Nimba County Health Team has proposed the addition of a mini-operating theatre further to bridge gaps in maternal and child health care.

The initiative is part of Nimba County’s broader 10-year health plan, which was crafted in partnership with national and local stakeholders. As part of these efforts, the Office of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung is funding the construction of a new surgical building and operating theatre to support advanced medical services.

Once the renovations and proposed upgrades are completed, Bahn Health Center will deliver comprehensive healthcare services, improving access to surgical and emergency care for thousands of residents across Nimba County.
