A senior immigration officer, who spoke to Verity News on conditions of anonymity, said that calm has been restored at the Sorlumba border in Lofa County.
The officer said that Guinean soldiers left their position and requested that Liberian Immigration Officers push back from their checkpoint. Due to hours of resistance and noncompliance from Liberian immigration officers, tensions reached a boiling point on August 9, 2026, leading to a serious standoff between the two country’s border forces.
However, after high-level talks initiated by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia Major General Davidson F. Forleh, with his Guinean counterparts, calm has finally been restored.
“Yes, I can confirm that there was tension here on August 9, 2026. When the Guinean soldiers came to our side, we told them it is not possible for us to pull back, because this is Liberia’s territory. We had to resist them and we did not comply with any order to vacate our position. Finally, they have returned to their previous position after talks with our bosses. We are still stationed here as you can see in the photos,” the immigration officer told Verity News.
