In a shocking case of betrayal, Daniel L. George, a 32-year-old Catholic Priest serving at the Christ the King Catholic Church in the Old Road Community, was arrested on October 8, 2024, on charges of statutory rape involving a 16-year-old girl, identified as “P.S.W”.
The allegations, which surfaced following an investigation by the Liberia National Police, highlight a disturbing pattern of abuse that reportedly occurred over several months.
According to a police charge sheet obtained by Verity News from the Women and Children Protection Section of the Liberia National Police, the abuse occurred from May 2024 until the victim reported the incidents in October 2024.
The charge sheet reveals that George is accused of sexually assaulting the victim who chose to be recognized as P.S.W. on multiple occasions, with the incidents.
This act according to the victim has been taking place primarily in his bedroom located within the church compound and at the victim’s home in the Old Road area.
The police report indicates that George allegedly engaged in sexual acts with the minor by inserting his penis into her vagina, constituting a clear violation of Liberian Law.
The investigation uncovered that George exploited his position as a priest to gain the trust of the victim’s family, particularly her mother, Mrs. Kebbeh Whesseh, who also attended the church.
Throughout April 2024, George reportedly called P.S.W.’s mother to request permission to take her daughter out on weekends, claiming innocent outings.
He frequently brought the victim to Invincible Park under the guise of playing football, and the mother, trusting his intentions, consented to these trips.
However, as time went on, Mrs.
Whesseh became increasingly uncomfortable with George’s behavior towards her daughter r and eventually restricted further outings.
The situation escalated when Dr. Paul T. Whesseh, a relative of the victim and a resident of the Old Road Community, filed a formal complaint with the police, prompting an immediate investigation.
Dr. Whesseh expressed deep disappointment at the betrayal of trust by George, a figure the community once revered.
“This is a man who was supposed to guide our children, not exploit them,” Dr. Whesseh stated.
“We trusted him with our family, and now we are left in shock and disbelief.”
Daniel L. George is facing charges under Chapter 14, Subchapter D, Section 14.70 (B)of the Liberian Penal Code, which addresses statutory rape.
If convicted, he faces severe punishment including a lengthy prison sentence. He is currently in Police Custody.
