The Chairman of the Unity Party, Rev. Dr. J. Luther Tarpeh, has tendered his resignation as Mobilization Chairman of Liberia’s national football team, the Lone Star, citing sustained verbal attacks against him and his late mother by certain radio stations.
In a resignation letter dated October 24, 2026, and addressed to Liberia Football Association President Mustapha Raji, Chairman Tarpeh said his decision takes immediate effect, despite what he described as his patriotic service to the national team.
He accused unnamed radio stations of devoting hours of airtime to malicious comments against him, including attacks directed at his deceased mother.
Tarpeh said he was stepping aside to prevent the controversy surrounding him from distracting efforts aimed at uniting Liberians behind the Lone Star.
He also questioned whether his position as chairman of a political party should disqualify him from mobilizing support and resources for the national team.
Despite his resignation, Chairman Tarpeh reaffirmed his commitment to the Lone Star, saying he would continue supporting the team from behind the scenes.
