Cllr. Brumskine Elected President of ECOWAS Court

Liberian jurist Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine has been elected President of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, a development she says brings pride not only to her but to Liberia as a whole.

Brumskine announced her election in a social media post after being sworn in as a Justice of the Court for the 2026–2030 term.

She thanked Liberians for the prayers, congratulations, and support she received following her swearing-in, saying the moment meant more than a personal achievement.

“The celebrations were not so much about Charlyne Brumskine, the lawyer. They were about something far greater. They were about what this moment meant for our beloved country, Liberia,” she said.

Brumskine recalled visiting President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Friday evening before leaving Liberia for Abuja, Nigeria, to begin her four-year assignment. During the visit, she asked the President if he had any final advice for her.

His response, she said, left a lasting impression on her.

“Make sure they know what Liberia is made of,” President Boakai told her.

Brumskine also thanked Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti for her efforts in securing Liberia’s seat on the regional court for the 2026–2030 term.

She said the achievement would not have been possible without the support and encouragement she received from Liberians.

“I carry your hopes, your pride, and our flag with me,” she said.

The newly elected Court President pledged to serve the ECOWAS Court and its member states with excellence and integrity.

Her election gives Liberia a leading role in the regional court, which handles legal matters within the jurisdiction of the Economic Community of West African States.

Brumskine ended her message by expressing gratitude to God, saying, “To God be the glory!”
