Concerned Liberians Caution Ivory Coast Over Alleged U.S. Alliance to Undermine Burkina Faso President

Monrovia, Liberia – A group of concerned Liberians, operating under the banner Movement to Protect Africa Bright Minds, staged a peaceful protest at the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in Monrovia on April 30. The group voiced strong opposition to what they allege is a potential collaboration between the Ivorian government and the United States aimed at destabilizing Burkina Faso’s leadership.

The group’s demonstration was held in solidarity with Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the current president of Burkina Faso. Protesters accused the Ivorian government of being complicit in a reported effort to undermine Traoré’s administration — a move they claim threatens West African sovereignty and regional peace.

In a speech delivered to Ivorian officials at the embassy, the leadership of the movement issued a direct appeal to Abidjan: “Do not aid in undermining Burkina Faso’s president,” they warned. The group emphasized that the sovereignty of African nations must be respected and condemned any foreign interference, particularly by external powers such as the United States.

Citing recent reports, the movement raised concerns about the presence of U.S. General Michael Langley in Côte d’Ivoire and alleged hostile rhetoric toward President Traoré. “This is a dangerous precedent,” the group noted. “The stability of Burkina Faso and the broader region is at risk.”

Burkina Faso, which has faced ongoing political and security challenges, has seen a surge of nationalistic leadership under President Traoré. Supporters argue that his administration is focused on resisting foreign control and restoring national dignity.

“If you help to undermine this new revolution,” the speech concluded, “we will consider Ivory Coast a traitor and unfriend every Ivorian around the world.”

The protest according to the organizers is that their message is part of a broader campaign to promote African unity, resist neo-colonialism, and defend national sovereignty across the continent.
