Cummings Calls on Police IG Coleman to Recuse Himself or Resign Over US$336 Drug Scandal

MONROVIA, Liberia — Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings has called on Liberia’s Inspector General of Police, Gregory Coleman, to recuse himself from an ongoing investigation into an alleged US$336 drug scandal or consider resigning.

Cummings questioned Coleman’s ability to independently oversee the investigation, citing allegations that some individuals working under the police chief may be involved.

“He said there were big hands and big shots involved,” Cummings stated, arguing that the circumstances raise concerns about the investigation’s independence.

The ANC leader suggested that Coleman’s withdrawal from the investigation could help address concerns about potential conflicts of interest, while also calling for his eventual resignation.

However, the allegations cited by Cummings do not, by themselves, establish wrongdoing by Coleman or any other police official.

Coleman and the Liberia National Police have not been quoted responding to Cummings’ demand in the statement provided.
