Former President George Manneh Weah, accompanied by a delegation of political allies, arrived at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia to express solidarity with former House Speaker Fonati Koffa and four other lawmakers currently who were detained at the Monrovia Central Prison (South Beach) in connection with the December 2024 Capitol Building fire incident.
Weah, donning a blue coat suit, white shirt, and red tie, was escorted into the Monrovia City Court by his entourage, which included former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Margibi County Senator Nathaniel F. McGill, Grand Gedeh Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely, Sinoe Senator Augustine Chea, and ANC political leader Alexander B. Cummings.
Also present were former Chief of Protocol Finda Bundoo, ex-presidential aide Sekou Kalasco Demarco, and Montserrado County District #9 Representative Frank Saah Foko.
Inside the chambers of Stipendiary Magistrate L. Ben Barco, Weah spent approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Upon exiting, he and his delegation were escorted out of the courthouse.
Representative Foko emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of the detained lawmakers, stating, “They should be released. Their rights must be respected. Nobody is less important.”
The show of support at the Temple of Justice underscores the ongoing political tensions surrounding the case and the broader implications for Liberia’s legal and political landscape.
