Speaking upon his return to Liberia on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Weah expressed deep concern over actions he characterized as bogus and selective, arguing that such measures risk undermining democratic institutions and the nation’s justice system. The former President emphasized that Liberia, having endured years of civil war and political instability, must actively protect peace, democracy, and the integrity of its public institutions.
He cautioned against weaponizing the justice system for political ends, warning that unfair or selective prosecutions weaken public confidence in the rule of law and threaten the country’s democratic progress.
Weah called for complete fairness, impartiality, and strict adherence to due process in the administration of justice. He stressed the importance of upholding democratic principles and ensuring that political transitions and electoral processes are fully respected.
His comments come as former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor remains the subject of an ongoing investigation linked to a high-profile US$317 million cocaine case.
