Former Maryland County District #3 Representative Isaac Roland Blalu has suffered a heartbreaking loss after his wife died in a tragic fire disaster at a local hotel, Flourish Stay B&B, in New Delhi, India.
Reports say that Mr. Blalu traveled to India to seek medical treatment. His wife accompanied him to support and care for him during his stay.
The couple was staying at a hotel in New Delhi when a fire broke out on June 3, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m. Indian time. The incident reportedly claimed the lives of 21 people.
Aljazeera confirms that at least 21 people were killed, including 18 foreign nationals, as a fire ripped through a hotel in New Delhi, police said, in one of the deadliest blazes in the Indian capital in years.
Sadly, Mrs. Blalu was among those who lost their lives in the disaster. Mr. Blalu survived but reportedly sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the deaths “tragic.” “My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones,” his office said in a statement.
Some reports suggested that the hotel had just one door for entry and exit and lacked proper ventilation.
The Liberian Government, through the Ministry of Information, has confirmed the incident and extended its condolences to the grieving family.
